Nehemiah 4:10-23

Dec 5-11

As we continue our study in the second half of Nehemiah 4 we find his response to the news of enemy attacks and the people’s discouragement.

Friday: Nehemiah 4:10. Why were the people becoming discouraged with rebuilding the wall? What are some causes of discouragement in your life?

Saturday: Nehemiah 4:11-12. What was the people’s reaction to the news of their enemies?

Monday: Nehemiah 4:13-14. What was Nehemiah’s response to the news of an attack by their enemies? How did Nehemiah encourage his people?

Tuesday: Nehemiah 4:15. How did God frustrate the plans of Israel’s enemies? In what ways have you seen God intervene on your behalf?

Wednesday: Nehemiah 4:16-20. What was Nehemiah’s plan to give the people confidence to return to rebuilding the wall? Do you think this plan demonstrated a lack of faith in God? Why or why not.

Thursday: Nehemiah 4:21-23. What do we learn about the workers from verse 21? What does verse 23 teach us about the seriousness of the threat they were facing?

Nehemiah 4:1-9

Nov 28-Dec 4

This week we start Nehemiah chapter 4, and we will see all the efforts

Sanballat went to in trying to discourage the Jews from building the wall. Yet

Nehemiah did not get discouraged and gives us a great example of not listening

to discouraging word from unbelievers.

Friday: Nehemiah 4:1 - Why do you think Sanballat was so angry that the wall

was being rebuilt? Why do you think he ridiculed the Jews.

Saturday: Nehemiah 4:2 - What are some of the specific things Sanballat said

to discourage the Jews? Why do you think he said these things in the

presence of the Samarian army (Note: Sanballat was a Samaritan leader,

possibly the governor)

Monday: Nehemiah 4:3 - How was Tobiah’s words insulting to the work of the

Jews.

Tuesday: Nehemiah 4:4-5 - What is an imprecatory prayer? How was this prayer

an imprecatory prayer? Do you think Nehemiah was justified in praying

this kind of prayer?

Wednesday: Nehemiah 4:6 - What do you think is the meaning of the statement

“the people worked with all their heart”? What difference does it make

when you work with all your heart? List some of the ways you are serving

God with “all their heart?”

Thursday: Nehemiah 4:7-9 - What was Sanballat and company’s response to the

rapid progress the Jews were making on the wall? What was the first

thing Nehemiah did in response to the threat.

Nehemiah 3:1-32

Nov 21-27

We have seen how Nehemiah has spent time in prayer and in action putting a plan together for the rebuilding of the walls of Jerusalem.  This week we are going to look at the people who were willing to follow his lead.

(I am not going to go through every verse this week with the questions, but I would encourage you to read through the chapter.  Don’t worry about pronouncing the names, just try your best.) Nehemiah 3:1-32

Friday: Eliashib the high priest and his fellow priests worked on rebuilding the Sheep Gate.  How important is it for leaders to get their hands dirty in the work?  Why don’t we see Nehemiah working on a section? Nehemiah 3:1

Saturday: There are many people named in this chapter just because they participated in the rebuilding project and are not named anywhere else in scripture.  How amazing would it feel if God included you in His Book for all eternity to see, just because you followed His Plan?  Philippians 4:3

Monday: Not everybody wanted to help: the Tekoite nobles and possibly the first five sons of Zalaph. Why wouldn’t you want to work on a project for God?  Nehemiah 3:5,30

Tuesday: Many are named in this chapter but only for Baruch does it say he worked zealously. What is the difference between giving/serving and giving/serving zealously? Nehemiah 3:20

Wednesday: When you are working do you spend time looking at what others are doing or do you focus on your task?  Do you use your talents to do more or just enough? Meremoth is just one example of one of the workers doing another section after “their” section was done. Nehemiah 3:4,21

Thursday: We’ll look more at the leadership attributes of Nehemiah, but take a few moments today and list the different areas where you need to follow and ask yourself how you are doing as a follower.

Nehemiah 2:11-20

Nov 14-20

Nehemiah has now traveled to Jerusalem with the king’s blessing and is analyzing the situation.  He had an idea of what he was going to do, but now he has direct access to the destruction and to the people.

Friday: Why do you think Nehemiah rested three days before getting started? Nehemiah 2:11

Saturday: Nehemiah had the blessing of the king to rebuild the wall, why was he being so secretive about his work?  (By night, a few others, told no one) Nehemiah 2:12,16

Monday: Nehemiah gets his hands dirty assessing the damage to the wall.  As God is developing your thoughts on a project, how much time do you spend in prayer?  How much time do you spend getting your hands dirty? Nehemiah 2:13-15

Tuesday: How were the people so ready to take on this project, even if it was the first time they were hearing about it?  Nehemiah 2:17-18

Wednesday: How do you feel when people oppose your ideas?  Is it because you shared them prematurely?  Could they have been jealous or afraid of your potential success?  Nehemiah 2:19

Thursday: How confident are you to defend the life that God has called you into?  Nehemiah 2:20

Nehemiah 2:1-10

Nov 7-13

As we continue our study of Nehemiah in chapter 2 we find him in the presence of the king and queen making bold requests for help in his plan to rebuild the wall around Jerusalem.

Friday: Nehemiah 2:1-2. Why was Nehemiah frightened by the King’s question and comment?

Saturday: Nehemiah 2:3. What does Nehemiah’s response to the king reveal about his heart and desires?

Monday: Nehemiah 2:4-5. How would you describe Nehemiah’s prayer? Why do you he think prayed before answering the king?

Tuesday: Nehemiah 2:6. Why could Nehemiah answer the king and queen so quickly regarding the length of his absence?

Wednesday: Nehemiah 2:7-8. What made Nehemiah so bold in making multiple requests of the king for assistance? What lesson should we learn from Nehemiah’s example?

Thursday: Nehemiah 2:9-10. Why do you think the king sent army officers and calvary with Nehemiah when we went to the governors?

Nehemiah 1:1-11

OCt 31-Nov 6

This week we begin our journey through Nehemiah.  Nehemiah was a man who was focused on God no matter what he was doing.  We will see over the coming months how he Prays, Plans, and Builds.

Friday: Nehemiah 1:1  Before we get into the book of Nehemiah, what do you know about him?  What do you hope to learn?

Saturday: Nehemiah 1:2-3  How would you feel if your home country (hometown) was broken down and burned up?  What could you do to help?

Monday: Nehemiah 1:4 When was the last time, if ever, you wept and mourned and fasted and prayed over a bad situation? Did it have an impact: on the situation? Or on you?

Tuesday: Nehemiah 1:5 Why does Nehemiah state “God of heaven” twice (Verse 4&5)?  What is the significance of that title?

Wednesday: Nehemiah 1:6-9 Did Nehemiah need to include himself in his confession? He wasn’t even in Jerusalem. Why do you think he included himself?

Thursday: Nehemiah 1:10-11 Why was Nehemiah able to boldly pray for success?  Where does his confidence come from?
